  Organisers to conduct ICT mock run in July

KOTA KINABALU: The modern and advanced 9th Malaysia Games (Sukma) ICT system (Information Communication Technology), which is being housed at the Sabah Trade Centre, will be conducting an intensive Mock-Run on July 8-11.

The mock-run is part and parcel of the ICT preparation in facing the Sukma, scheduled for Sept 5-14, where the system, termed to be the best would be fully relied upon when it comes to providing fast, accurate updates and latest information throughout the event.

Its chairman Koh Choon Kong said yesterday, the run is for all the ICT personnel to carry out testing for the entire Sukma 2002 ICT system, which includes Sports and management System (ISMS), all software, hardware and network to be fully functional, ready and set to be in fully operational.

He said, the run is also to gain enough experience and confidence in the management of ICT operation during the Sukma, so that all is being run as expected.

Apart from that it is also part of its assessment to find out any sort of weaknesses to the system if any, thus enabling them to pin point and take appropriate remedies, rectification and improvement which needed to be taken care of prior to the Sukma proper.

Koh added, the run is an important event whereby, it could provide ground for all its personnel involved in the Sukma to familiarize with their respective roles and duties and at the sametime promote the spirit of team work.

The mock-run among others acts as prove of concept and final acceptance by the main Sukma committee, where he is optimistic that the run would gather interest, good response and successful without any major fault.

A total of about 370 people including ICT volunteers, developers, site engineers, management teams, key personnel from various sports associations and other committees looking after transportation, food, Games Village, Media, RTM and the Sukma Secretariat.

During the run period, there would be at least 100 networked PCs would be utilized for the event.

On July 8-9 between 8am-4pm, the mock-run would be conducted under the management modules such as transportation, F&B, accommodation, arrival and departure modules would be thoroughly tested.

The personnel from other committees (Games Village, food, Secretariat and ICT) would also be directly involved in this trial, where the mock-run venues would be at the 9th Sukma Secretariat at the STC, while at the Games Village depends very much on the completion and readiness of the facilities at the UMS before the run.
The trial run, scheduled for July 9-11 would be for all game modules for the 27 sports associations' officials, technical/competition committees, Secretariat, ICT, Media Centre and RTM/electronic media.

Koh said, for venues that are ready for the mock-run, the game modules would be tested at the respective designated venues, and those which are not ready due to reasons such as communication lines, construction among others, the game modules would be tested at the Unit Kemjuan IT, Wisma Muis and at the STC.
