KOTA KINABALU: The Ninth Malaysia Games (Sukma 2002)
main Secretariat has moved to the Sabah Trade Centre (STC)
in Likas and is all geared up to face the biennial Games
from Sept 5-14.
The new Secretariat equipped with an online computer
system is just adjacent to the Sukma ICT on the ground
floor of the STC and is now fully operational.
The man in charge of the Secretariat Penyuki Matta said
yesterday the initial set-up was housed at the ground
floor of Wisma Muis, which began operations in March last
year.
Yesterday staff from the Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry
and Sabah Sports Council (SSC) set up the new office after
telecommunications and computer systems were installed.
Headed by the Ministrys Permanent Secretary Datuk
Noni J. Said, a gotong royong was held to clean up the
premises, while others were busy co-ordinating with the
various participating states.
Penyuki said the Secretariat is the main co-ordinator
for all the 22 main working committees and all the participating
teams, co-ordinating the requirements of all contingents
such as transportation, accommodation, registration, accreditation
cards, and food among others, for a smooth running of
the Games.
Contingent secretariats would also be set up at the Kota
Kinabalu International Airport and also the Games Village
the Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to ensure proper
co-ordination and assistance to all officials and athletes
throughout the event.
He said the Sukma Secretariat was moved to the STC because
of its central location.
Athletes and officials from each contingent, including
from the Northern Territory of Australia and Brunei are
expected to throng the Secretariat days before the Games
proper kick off.
Penyuki expects the Secretariat staff to be busy around
the clock prior to the Sukma dealing with the contingents,
distribution of accreditation cards for each athlete and
official and other tasks.
The new address of the Secretariat is Ground Floor, Sabah
Trade Centre, Jalan Istiadat, Teluk Likas, P.O. Box 15959,
88400 Kota Kinabalu.
The telephone numbers are 088-248916, 088-247807, and
088-248343 and fax 088-254589.
